(SOLD OUT) To Knot or Not: Hand Stitch Masterclass

Choose from 3 sessions:

Join Herma for an hour of happy stitching using beautiful wool fabric as the base and add stitches with a variety of lovely threads. Your kit includes pre-cut wool fabric, appliqué thread, beautiful cotton embroidery threads in different weights, needles for both types of thread and a small quilted background.

 

(SOLD OUT) WonderFil Stitching

Friday August 10 - 1:30pm

Beautiful threads make such a difference to your work but it can be quite scary to try some of them. Join Herma for this adventure and try some of those threads with expert assistance at hand. Try out different WonderFil threads, different stitches and combinations of both on a small sampler quilt. Add texture and colour to a piece of fabric in this workshop and take what you learn home to add interest to your quilts.

Want to take your quilts to the next level? We will examine the advantages and disadvantages for certain thread applications, and specific recommendations on choice of thread to enhance the quality of common quilting. Applications including free motion quilting, hand/machine applique, stitch-in-the-ditch, piecing (general, EPP, foundation), trapunto, wool work and more will also be covered so you can select the right thread for your projects. Suitable for any level.

Ever wonder how to take full advantage of how thread enhances your projects and what to look out for when choosing the right thread? This thread master class is designed to offer you a concise overview of thread development, construction, production, material and colour, and how these affect the consideration and selection of the thread, which best suits the application and purpose. Tips and hints on tension setting, the choice and use of metallic thread will also be discussed.

Chain Stitched Pillow Topper

Use a beautiful heavy 8 wt rayon thread by WonderFil to create a simple chain stitch. In this quick and easy class, you will use a fused appliqué and simple technique to achieve stunning results. Students will start a pillow top to be completed at home. Suitable for any level.

 

Swedish Weaving: Pot Holder

Saturday August 11 - 10:30am

Learn the simple techniques of an age old form of stitching. Swedish Weaving (or Huck Weaving) is a technique of stitching through the top threads of a fabric, so the stitching doesn’t show on the underside of your work. Learn to create interesting folk art accents for your home using specialty threads. You will receive what you need to create pot holders as a simple starting project. Suitable for any level.

 

English Paper Piecing Pillow Top

Friday August 10 - 3:30pm

Find out the dramatic difference you can achieve when English Paper piecing with a fine thread. WonderFil’s 100wt InvisaFil will make your finished stitches disappear in your work. In this quick and easy class, create a meandering hexie design to put on a pillow top. Attendees will begin a pillow top to be completed at home. Suitable for any level.

 

SUE SPARGO - USA

Woolly Block Winter Red Cardinal

Friday August 10 - 9:30am

This little 8" x 8" block is a great introduction to wool appliqué and basic stitching. Join Sue to learn about hand dyed wool using freezer paper templates and whip stitch appliqué. Finish bringing this little winter bird to life adding stitches to give him a feathery appearance. Suitable for beginners.

 

(SOLD OUT) Circle Play Needlecasse

Saturday August 11 - 9:30am

Have fun making a wool needle book embellished with wool circles and dimensional embroidery stitches. Learn wool whip stitch appliqué using WonderFil Ellana wool thread then stitch a combination of embroidery stitches using WonderFil #8 Eleganza perle cotton in bright shades to add texture and dimension to the polka dot front cover. Suitable for beginners.

Road Runner: Embroidered Needle Roll

Saturday August 12 - 9:30am

Come and enjoy a relaxed day of sewing with Sue Spargo. You will be creating an embroidery sample to be finished as a unique needle roll. The focus of the class will be on the use of Wonderfil Eleganza Perle Cotton in sizes 8, 5 and 3. You will learn a few stitches using them in different formations and combinations. Each cover created will be unique. Suitable for beginners.
